Artist Statement
โครงการ Chiang Mai: Nuclear Winter เป็นการสำรวจภาพของเมืองเชียงใหม่ภายใต้สถานการณ์สมมติหลังสงครามนิวเคลียร์ระดับโลก ซึ่งก่อให้เกิดปรากฏการณ์ Nuclear Winter แม้เมืองจะไม่ถูกทำลายโดยตรง แต่การล่มสลายของระบบสิ่งแวดล้อมและโครงสร้างพื้นฐานได้เปลี่ยนพื้นที่ที่คุ้นเคยให้กลายเป็นภูมิทัศน์ของความเงียบและการหยุดชะงัก

ผลงานตั้งอยู่บนช่วงเวลา “เจ็ดปีหลังเหตุการณ์” เมื่อมนุษย์ได้หายไปจากพื้นที่ และธรรมชาติเริ่มค่อย ๆ เข้าครอบครองเมือง ภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้ถ่ายจากสถานที่จริงในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ และพัฒนาเพิ่มเติมด้วยเทคนิคดิจิทัล เพื่อจำลองบรรยากาศและสภาพแสงที่อ้างอิงจากข้อมูลทางวิทยาศาสตร์เกี่ยวกับ Nuclear Winter โดยหลีกเลี่ยงการปรากฏตัวของมนุษย์ เพื่อให้สภาพแวดล้อมทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้เล่าเรื่อง

ผลงานชุดนี้ไม่ได้มุ่งสร้างภาพหายนะเชิงดราม่า หากแต่เป็นการตั้งคำถามถึงความเปราะบางของระบบเมือง และความไม่ถาวรของอารยธรรมที่เราคุ้นเคย

Chiang Mai: Nuclear Winter explores the city of Chiang Mai under a speculative scenario following a global nuclear conflict that leads to a nuclear winter. Although the city itself is not directly destroyed, the collapse of environmental systems and infrastructure transforms familiar urban spaces into landscapes of silence and suspension.

The series is set seven years after the event, a period in which human presence has largely disappeared and nature begins to slowly reclaim the city. The images are photographed in real locations across Chiang Mai and further developed through digital techniques to simulate lighting and atmospheric conditions informed by scientific research on nuclear winter. Human figures are deliberately absent, allowing the environment itself to act as the narrator.

Rather than depicting dramatic catastrophe, this work reflects on the fragility of urban systems and the impermanence of the civilization we inhabit.
