Tracing the Horizon , Sewing Lines.

Tracing the horizon, stitching lines together. When we hear the word “horizon,” we often imagine something far away distant lands across the sea, beyond our reach. And yet, I did not truly know where the end of the horizon I saw from my childhood home lay.
Though I have gazed at it since I was young, it always felt distant simply because it was
something only seen, never known. At some point, I began to feel that perhaps the horizon is not as far as it seems. I decided to walk toward it to see what might emerge along the way.
By calculation, the mountains forming that horizon lie approximately 15.8 km to the west, between Hachioji and Akiruno in Tokyo. Setting this already-seen limit as my destination, I began to record the process of reaching it on foot.
In doing so, I realized that the horizon itself is not a physical line, but a perceptual gap a line we recognize between two elements, such as sky and mountains, or sky and buildings.
From this perspective, I began to colect these boundaries the spaces that emerge where one thing meets another̶as if clipping them from the world.
Through this process, I attempt to deconstruct and reconstruct the concept of the horizon through physical movement and visual colection.
The countless fragments of these “in-between” spaces I gathered connect like a patchwork. And when brought together, they undeniably form a path toward a single horizon. In the end, the horizon that once felt so far away has become a place I truly know.
地平線と聞けば、遥か向こうの海外などを想起させる。しかし、実家から見える地平線ですらその見えている果てがどこかを知らない。
幼少期からずっと見てきたはずなのに、ただ見えるだけというだけでどこか遠くに感じる。
地平線は、まだその先を知らないだけで案外近くにあるのかもしれないと感じた時、実際に見えていた地平線まで歩いて、その道のりの中で何が見えてくるのか確かめてみたくなった。
計算上、実家から見える山々（地平線）は西へ約15.8km、八王子とあきる野の間付近に位置すると分かった。この既視の限界線を目的地に定め、実際に歩いて辿り着くまでのプロセスを記録することにした。
その際、地平線そのものが、物理的な線を指すものではなく、空と山、空と建物などといった2つのものの「隔たり」を、線として認識した概念にすぎないと考えた。
そこで、物質と物質が隣り合うことで生まれる境界、その隔たりを切り取るように収集していくことで「地平線」という概念を身体的な移動と視覚的な採集によって解体・再構築することを試みた。
私によって切り取られた無数の「間(あわい)」の断片は、ツギハギのように繋げた時、確かに一つの地平線への道のりを立ち上がらせた。
それと同時に、遥か遠くのように感じていた地平線は、見知った土地へと変わっていた。
